‘Tomorrow, Force J will rendezvous with other invasion components in mid-channel and proceed to the French coast. You all know what that means …’

Hell bent for the Normandy beaches a massive flotilla of naval vessels are involved in one of the most harrowing and dramatic episodes of World War II — Operation Neptune, code name for ‘D’ Day.

The vital contribution by landing craft to the success of the operation is enormous — LCF49 is just one of these, a small vessel whose crew know only too well that death could be just round the corner …

There’s SBA Peach, whose reaction to the demon drink has something to be desired — Lt. Turk, down-to-earth C.O. — Perkins and Walters, two hard-boiled sailors with a cynical eye — and Signalman ‘Lobby’ Ludd, whose main problem is his stormy relationship with a certain Freda Harris from Walham Green …

Will they be able survive one of the most ambitious naval landings ever?

Or will Operation Neptune be their last mission?

The Neptune Landing detailing the tragedies and triumphs of ‘D’ Day is the dramatic sequel to The Tinfish Run and The Pierhead Jump.

Praise for Ronald Bassett

‘A taut tale with a good leavening of humour’ - Birmingham Post

'Superb … this is the authentic Navy' - Manchester Evening News

‘vividly described … the voyage as seen through the sleep-robbed eyes of matelots and officers alike’ - Daily Telegraph

Ronald Bassett joined the Navy as a boy. His first ship was the cruiser Norfolk in which he served as a Telegraphist in the Arctic during the Bismarck action, and the North African landings. He served in landing craft during the invasion of Normandy.

The Neptune Landing Tinfish Run Book 3 eBook Ronald Bassett

A realistic account of life at sea on a World War I destroyer of the British Navy in World War II. An outdated warship serving in difficult times because they were compelled to use what was available. The author clearly knows his stuff.

The Neptune Landing Tinfish Run Book 3 eBook Ronald Bassett Reviews

Historical fiction adds emotion to the facts. Join the crew and see the war through the eyes of one who makes you feel that you are with him.
Another brilliant tale from a gifted author. Mr Bassett continues to create believable, powerful, funny, and tragic characters who grow and develop throughout the story. A powerful book about the terrible toll extracted from the common sailor and soldier.
What a story and what an ending. Even if you have failed to read the first two books in this series, you must read this one.
This trilogy about Lobby Ludd in the British navy was said to be humorous. The first two didn't strike me funny; maybe it's a Yank's misunderstanding of British humor. But this third book had me laughing out loud regularly. I think I know Lobby more by now.
The series is not primarily a comedy. The humor is what happens to real sailors on real ships. I know, having served in the Navy meself.
The three books take place on three different kinds of ships in different circumstances. Therefore the action scenes vary, so each book is not the same as the other, only the main character. Ronald Bassett is a good story teller and invents interesting characters. He writes their dialogue in such a fine way that you can "hear" their accents.
This is an enjoyable trilogy.
Interesting read.
Nothing like British humor to the spice up a great recount of d day landing with personal touch and then a. Sad love story ending
Very fast reading. Funny in spots and serious in others. Characters were well presented and language became easier to understand the longer one read. Sad ending but effective. I enjoyed this book and will certainly try to read more books by this author.
